Blood Lipids

Blood lipids are a combination of fatty acids and cholesterol. It is a fat-soluble substance. To measure the blood lipids, you need to calculate the total HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. There are two major types of cholesterol, one low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is known to be bad for health as it blocks the arteries. On the contrary, HDL is good cholesterol as it moves to the liver and breaks down in to bile. Bad cholesterol or LDL is one major cause of heart diseases.


Cholesterol can be found in three forms in the human body. First one is the HDL or High-Density Lipoprotein. Second is the LDL or Low-Density Lipoprotein. The third one is the VLDL or Very Low-Density Lipoprotein. These lipoproteins are carried by the blood in different parts of the body. A study conducted on vegans and non-vegans showed that in some cases, vegans have low cholesterol levels. On the contrary, vegans are also prone to other significant diseases due to low HDL as well.

Why Do Vegans Have Lower Blood Pressure?

The BMI or Body Mass Index affects blood pressure levels. Vegan meals such as vegan pizza have high potassium content. This is due to the ingredients used in it. Any diet with low sodium content and high potassium content can lead to low blood pressure levels. Other factors affecting blood pressure levels are modulation of baroreceptor sensitivity, lower blood viscosity, imbalance in metabolism rate, lower insulin levels, etc.

Body Mass Index

BMI or Body Mass Index is the evaluation of the weight and height of a person. It is valued by dividing the weight in kg with height in meter square. A person is considered healthy if the BMI lies in between 20 to 25. BMI above 30 is considered obese and below 17 is malnourished. Studies on human health suggest that BMI ranging from 22 to 25 have low mortality rate. In the past few years a low BMI has been a cause of death.

Vegans have been tested with low BMI. This is mainly caused due to their diet. A vegan diet does not provide all the necessary nutrients to our body. Vegan pizza is one meal which provides proper nutrients. Apart than this, other meals miss out on some essential nutrients.

There are loopholes in all diets. We need to understand whether our diet is helping us or not. You can evaluate all of it while munching on some delicious vegan pizza. After all, diet is important.
